To celebrate Back British Farming Day, I want to show my full support for our farmers and recognise the crucial role they play in producing food for the nation and caring for the countryside.
The agriculture sector is not just valuable to my constituency of Mid Worcestershire, but to the whole country – worth more than £120 billion and employing 4 million people.
This autumn will be a critical time for British food and farming, and I will continue to highlight the importance of protecting our high standards of produce.
Thanks to those farmers in my constituency, and the wider food supply chain, we were able to ensure supermarket shelves were kept stocked and the nation was fed during this difficult time (with plenty of asparagus as usual). I am very grateful for all that they have done and continue to do.
