On Friday 20 October, Droitwich Spa CVS celebrated the launch of Moving Forward's 'Next Steps' initiative amidst the challenging weather conditions caused by Storm Babet. The event witnessed an impressive turnout, underscoring the unwavering local community support and enthusiasm. Among the attendees were Nigel Huddleston MP and Cllr Kate Fellows, Mayor of Droitwich Spa Town Council.
Located within the heart of the Westlands Community Centre, Moving Forward has made significant progress, fuelled by generous contributions from the Tesco Community Grant and the National Lottery Community Fund. This community hub thrives with diverse initiatives, including its 'Community Fridge', family-focused events, engaging activities such as playgroups, culinary classes, and family fun days, as well as community advisory services.
The Moving Forward project, which started in 2019, aims to improve social mobility in the area, with a focus on offering mentoring programs, various courses, and vital support services. These initiatives are designed to provide opportunities and a better start in life for the local community, particularly young people.
On 1 October 2023, Droitwich Spa CVS secured a significant grant of £321,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund. This financial support underscores the pivotal role Droitwich Spa CVS plays in addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by residents in the Westlands estate.
Speaking to the audience, Nigel Huddleston MP emphasised the importance of communities uniting to support one another. He praised Droitwich Spa CVS for its indispensable role in building trust, nurturing relationships, and fostering a resilient sense of community.
Nigel Huddleston MP said:
"Droitwich Spa CVS exemplifies the power of community – by coming together, we can create opportunities and support one another through challenging times.
“Moving Forward plays a pivotal role in fostering trust, nurturing relationships, and cultivating a robust sense of community in the Westlands estate.
“I was delighted to hear of the further funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, and I am certain that the Droitwich Spa CVS team will put it to good use.”
Tonia Enderbury, CEO of Droitwich Spa CVS, said:
“The team are really proud of what we have already achieved and are so pleased that The National Lottery Community Fund has granted us £321,000 to carry on our work in Droitwich West.
“We are making positive changes to residents’ lives by offering a wide range of social activities alongside practical courses, such as cooking, IT, hairdressing, and barista training.
“We are grateful that Nigel Huddleston MP came to our launch on Friday 20th October and really appreciate his ongoing support. He always shines a light on the great charities working throughout Worcestershire.”
Droitwich Spa CVS is also in search of volunteers. Volunteering not only provides a gateway to giving back to the community but also an opportunity for personal growth and positive change. You can help out in various capacities, including as a driver, gardener, and with the running of the community fridge. The organisation also extends its warm welcome to businesses and non-profits, encouraging them to become annual members, thereby unlocking an array of benefits and support.
