I have been visiting businesses, shops and attractions across Worcestershire as part of the government’s ‘Enjoy Summer Safely’ campaign. This campaign encourages people to be confident about shopping and participating in leisure activities again, while being aware that Coronavirus is still with us and we still need to take precautions. As Minister for Sport, Tourism and Heritage, I know that these businesses welcome the loosening of restrictions this summer and need our support.
This is an unusual summer and we've had to become more accustomed to staying close to home, but I would highly recommend exploring the amazing sights we have right on our own doorstep. We can also play our part in helping secure local jobs by spending money on local leisure activities and shopping locally. I know that after this period of lockdown, getting to grips with what is safe and how places operate might seem daunting. But over the past few weeks, I’ve visited many businesses, shops, tourist and heritage attractions and have been consistently impressed by how seriously those running the businesses take the safety of their staff and customers. New hygiene and social distancing measures are now in place in most businesses, and we can now conduct most activities we did before lockdown, albeit in a slightly different way.
VisitBritain has also launched a ‘We’re good to go’ industry standard and mark which many businesses have displayed in their premise windows. It confirms that the business is adhering to the appropriate government and public health guidance and has carried out a Covid-19 risk assessment. Its just one way to help build confidence that people can visit these businesses safely.
