Last Friday I met with representatives from Wychavon District Council and Worcestershire County Council as well as local business leaders to talk about Evesham’s bid for the Future High Street Fund and the further regeneration of the town centre.
The Future High Street Fund was announced by the Government in the Autumn Budget as part of the “Our Plan for the High Street”. The £675 million fund will support local areas to develop and fund plans to make their high streets fit for the future in the face of increasing competition from online retailers and recognising changing consumer expectations of the purpose of their local High Street. The fund will also establish a new High Streets Taskforce to provide hands-on support to local areas and share best practices and ideas.
Winning a share of the funds could bring transformative change to Evesham and I will continue liaising with local representatives as they work on the bid and will play my part in lobbying for a share of the funds.
