Earlier this week, the Government launched ‘Stop! Think Fraud’, their national campaign against fraud. This is a large public awareness campaign that will be running across the United Kingdom.
Fraud is responsible for almost 40% of all offences in England and Wales, and is the single largest crime. To counter this, the Government launched the Fraud Strategy, an ambitious plan to tackle the crime and attempt to keep the public safer.
Since publishing the Strategy, the Government have created a National Fraud Squad, with 400 investigators already in post, to better tackle the most callous fraudsters targeting the UK public and businesses.
As a result of our action to date, fraud has fallen 13% compared to 2022. Today’s launch of the ‘Stop! Think Fraud’ campaign, another Fraud Strategy commitment, is the next step. It will transform the fight against fraudsters by streamlining and amplifying anti-fraud messaging.
I encourage those affected by fraud in my Mid Worcestershire community to look into the new campaign, and see the ways in which it could offer potential help to them.
