The Government has announced their plan for British farmers, with a range of measures set out to help make farming sustainable and resilient.
Previously, the Government committed to spending an average of £2.4 billion in the farming sector for each year of this Parliament. Since 1st April 2023, the Government have invested £5438136.61 in farming in Mid Worcestershire alone.
As part of the announcement this week, an increase in funding has been given to the Management Payment which was introduced in September 2023. The payment will be doubled to up to £2000 in the first year of agreements entered into by March 2025.
Alongside this is the launch of the largest ever grant offer, totalling £427 million. This invests £220 million in productivity and innovation in farming, £116 million in slurry infrastructure, and £91 million in improving the health and welfare of our farmed animals.
The plan will also improve the service and support being offered to farmers and cut planning red tape, which currently stands in the way of farm diversification. This is alongside the ongoing investment in the digital infrastructure of rural areas, which will assist with reducing the barriers that farmers currently face.
I am pleased to hear of the Government’s plan for British farming, and I know just how important this will be in Mid Worcestershire. Our farmers are integral to our community, and I share the Government’s commitment to ensuring we give them as much support as possible. Representing such a rural constituency, I understand the importance of making farming sustainable and ensuring that the agricultural sector has a long-term plan. I look forward to continuing to work alongside farmers in Mid Worcestershire to achieve this shared objective.
