With HMP Long Lartin in my constituency, I have met many excellent prison officers working in Worcestershire and I appreciate how important it is to have good staff in prisons.
It seems that across the country, prison officers are leaving to pursue careers elsewhere and so this week I asked the Justice Minister, Rory Stewart MP, in the House of Commons what can be done to retain prison officers so that we can keep our prisons safe and well-staffed. I received an encouraging response that the Government aims to keep prison staff motivated with training and support packages to those who work in prisons.
