Each and every week many Mid Worcestershire residents, and many other all over the country, participate in society lotteries as well as the National Lottery. Both of these contribute to good causes across the Worcestershire region. The Department for Culture Media and Sport Minister, Mims Davies MP, recently announced that the maximum prizes and the annual sales limit will be increasing for society lotteries, which has caused concern about the National Lottery’s role in funding of local community projects.
In my constituency alone, 623 projects have been awarded money to help them develop and expand.
Over £2 billion of lottery money goes towards projects all over the UK, so I sought assurances that the growth in society lotteries will not impact the investment of National Lottery money to charitable projects.
