Earlier today I questioned the Government on its industrial strategy and highlighted the importance of the service sector and its contribution to the UK economy.
The Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Greg Clark, highlighted the once-in-a-generation chance to embrace the opportunities of our new global role, and to upgrade our economy so that it works for everyone. He committed the Government to working with the breadth of British industry, local leaders, innovators, employees and consumers to create the conditions for future success.
I asked the Secretary of State to confirm that the service sector, which constitutes 80% of the British economy, will also be comprehensively covered by this industrial strategy. Mr Clark acknowledged that the UK must look to strengths and that the service sector is undoubtedly one its greatest strengths.
The industrial strategy will be key for the future prosperity of this country. It is important that we have a strategy that works for all sectors of industry, particularly for the industries, such as the service sector, that will provide the growth and opportunity for all parts of the United Kingdom in the future.
