Like many of my constituents, I am concerned about speculation regarding the future of Worcester Warriors and am keeping a close eye on developments.
The last few years have been extremely difficult for many sports clubs and the impact of the pandemic has hit many clubs hard. That is why in my capacity as Sports Minister, I worked with the Treasury and other ministers to develop the Sports Survival Package which helped many clubs survive the pandemic by providing loans and grants.
I was recused from decisions relating to applications to the fund by clubs in my constituency and therefore cannot comment any further about Worcester Warriors and the Sports Survival Package.
Of course, in my capacity as a Worcestershire MP, I am well aware that Worcester Warriors plays a vital role in the local community. It is much more than a rugby team and many local residents, as well as many supporters from further afield, have a strong emotional connections with the club and the legacy of Cecil Duckworth.
I will continue to monitor developments and do what I can to help secure the future of the club.
