Last Sunday, February 23rd, I was glad to be amongst those celebrating the opening of Worcestershire Parkway Station - Worcestershire’s first new railway station for over 100 years.
Local residents and councillors, station managers and those involved in the construction made the trip to the station early in the morning to welcome the first train arriving on Sunday at 8.29am on its way to Paddington.
The project has been ongoing for more than 30 years, so the morning was a momentous occasion as Worcestershire opens up to more travel routes and better connectivity both to London and Hereford with GWR and cross country to Nottingham and Cardiff.. Nigel has watched the progress of Worcestershire Parkway closely and it was particularly important to him that he was present for the first train coming through Worcestershire Parkway station, as the station is in his constituency.
I’m really pleased to be at the opening of the brand new Worcestershire Parkway station to greet the very first train.
I want to thank the many people and bodies involved in making this happen and I very much look forward to using the station and making my first rail journey from this station very soon.
