On Monday 8th April the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport published the long-awaited Online Harms White Paper. I worked very closely with Ministers on the development of this White Paper during my time as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Ministers and the Secretary of State in the Department and have prepared this short video explaining what the intent of the White Paper is, as well as some of the measures it contains.
A consultation on the White Paper is now open and I would urge any who are interested in online safety to participate before the deadline of July 1st 2019. You can read more about the consultation or submit a response here https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/online-harms-white-paper
I also had the opportunity to question the Secretary of State about the White Paper in the Chamber yesterday, and asked him whether a digital levy could be used to fund education and awareness about what constitutes harmful behaviour online. You can watch our exchange at https://youtu.be/qMnDuE735oE
