Yesterday in Parliament, I asked the new Leader of the House of Commons, Mel Stride, whether it was time to update rules surrounding the use of footage taken in the chamber. Since cameras were introduced in 1989, broadcasters agreed as part of a deal to admit television cameras into the Commons that footage cannot be used in light entertainment programming or in a programme of political satire.
However, people can easily access light-hearted and comedic moments on Youtube and other platforms, I feel it is about time that Parliament embraces change and allows producers to use it for comedic and entertainment purposes.
