As I am sure many will be aware, I have received hundreds of emails and letters about the Conservative Party Leadership election contest from residents who have taken the time to get in touch with their thoughts. I continue to read all of the correspondence that I receive, and as you might expect there are a number of differing viewpoints. Due to the sheer volume, however, this statement sets out to all of my constituents who have taken the trouble to write to me what my current position is. However, I want to assure you that every comment will be read and duly noted.
As you might be aware, I am a Vice Chairman of the Conservative Party and therefore I must remain impartial during this process and cannot publicly endorse a candidate. I am still able to cast a vote, however, and the views of my constituents will of course be very important in deciding who I vote for. My vote will also be based on the credibility of their Brexit plan and the ambition of their post-Brexit agenda.
Thank you again to everybody who has taken the trouble to write to me so far.
