Amidst the ongoing events in London earlier this month the Chancellor, Sajid Javid, not only set the 2020/21 spending allocations for Government departments but allocated substantial additional investment into our vital public services – not least our NHS, schools and police forces.
The NHS is set to benefit from increased funding above the £33.9 billion already announced last year. The Chancellor confirmed funding for 20 new hospital upgrades as well as £1,000 for every nurse, midwife and health professional to support their professional development, helping our NHS recruit and retain the very best staff. Along with Worcestershire colleagues I met this month with the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, to highlight our own local health and social care needs and make the case for our hospitals to get its fair share of the additional investment.
