Since 15th June, zoos have been able to reopen outdoor areas, but I'm pleased that to further help their businesses recover from the impact of lockdown restrictions the Government has dedicated a further £100 million as a support fund.
Having had to close their doors for lockdown, many businesses have been struggling and this difficult period has left many zoos with long-term financial problems.
The Government has given this extra funding of £100 million to make sure that zoos can maintain their high level of animal welfare standards and maintain funding for conservation projects. I know the Government will continue working closely with the Zoo Experts Committee to make sure they get the support they need.
