I strongly encourage local residents to register to volunteer for the upcoming Games in Birmingham next year. 13,000 dedicated volunteers are needed to help deliver the biggest recent sporting and cultural event in the West Midlands and applications will open on 1st June with the chance to register beforehand.
These volunteers will form the ‘Commonwealth Collective’ and will essentially shape the experience of all those competing and attending from around the world. The Games are looking for a diverse range of abilities and skills to help make this a fantastic event for the West Midlands. Some positions will be prioritised for local people to ensure the Midlands is represented, and up to 1,000 positions will be available for priority groups including young people and those unemployed. The traditional interview process will also be replaced with recruitment selection centres which will be designed as welcoming environments, along with volunteer engagement events to connect people from across the city and region.
Being a part of such a big event for the region will be an extraordinary opportunity and I strongly encourage all those considering being a part of this to register for volunteer applications. In events like these, the volunteers mean everything and have such an impact on the audience and the sportspeople attending. It’s a fantastic chance for the West Midlands to show the rest of the world our local spirit and identity.
