I was delighted to plant two cherry trees alongside Wychavon District Council Chairman, Robert Raphael.
The trees were gifted to Wychavon as part of the Sakura Cherry Tree Project, in which 60 trees will be donated to the District. This follows on from the trip to Wychavon of the Japanese ambassador, Hajime Hayashi, last April. The trip marked the 40th anniversary of the Blossom trail, and the gift of 60 trees that followed on from it celebrates the enduring friendship between the UK and Japan.
Gifted by the people of Japan, the 60 trees include Beni-yutaka, Tai-haku, and Somei-yoshino, chosen for their variation in colour, timing, and historical significance.
The first two cherry trees were planted in Abbey Park in Evesham, adding to the already beautiful nature of the park and riverbank.
